and SO IT BEGINS... WITH A VOICE

MARCH 30... MY BLOGGITY BLOG (MARCIA ALVERSON)

The Universe Did Not Begin With Noise - It Began With a Voice

The opening pages of Scripture do not begin with chaos having the final word. They begin with God. Before matter formed, before stars burned, before breath entered lungs, there was the presence of the Creator. And then, Scripture gives us one of the most profound patterns in all of existence: "And God said... " The universe did not begin with noise. It began with a Voice. That phrase, “And God said,” can become so familiar that we almost pass over it. But when we slow down, it reveals something staggering. God does not create by struggle. He does not wrestle the world into being. He speaks, and reality responds. Light separates from darkness. Waters gather. Life emerges. What was unseen becomes visible because the Word of God carried intention, order, and creative power. This changes the way we understand creation. The world is not merely assembled; it is addressed. It is not accidental; it is intentional. If God spoke the universe into existence, then creation itself carries the echo of that first utterance. The rhythms we see in nature — seasons, tides, breath, heartbeat, movement, pattern — may not simply be mechanics. They may be witnesses. They may be creation still responding to the Voice that formed it. And this is where wonder begins to open. Sound moves invisibly, yet powerfully. We cannot see a voice, but we can feel its impact. A word can comfort, convict, awaken, gather, or call something out of hiding. Even in the natural world, sound and vibration can create movement and pattern. So when Scripture presents God as One who speaks, breathes, calls, forms, and sustains, perhaps it is inviting us to see that His voice is not merely symbolic. It is formative. If His voice formed creation, then perhaps His voice is still forming us.Perhaps faith is not merely the acceptance of religious information, but the recognition of the One who has been speaking all along. Something in us remembers being made by Voice. Something in us still responds when the Architect speaks. This is why the Word of God can reach places in us that explanation alone cannot touch. His voice does not simply inform; it awakens. So the invitation is simple, but sacred: listen again. Return to the opening words with fresh awe. Let “God said” become more than a phrase you have heard before. Let it become the foundation beneath your life. The same God who spoke light into darkness is still speaking into places that feel unformed, empty, or hidden. And when He speaks, creation still knows what to do.
